Principal designer

At Batty France Consultancy, we believe the project designers can make a significant contribution to designing out risk by working with the CDM Advisor in the role of Principal Designer.

The role of principal designer is set out in the Construction (Design and Management) regulations 2015 (CDM 2015), applying to any project that has more than one contractor. Our role involves:

• Responsibility for planning, managing and the monitoring of the pre-construction phase of your project. Reducing the risks to health and safety as far as is reasonably possible.
• Compiling pre-construction data and providing it to designers and builders.
• Keeping the client informed of their legal obligations.
• Creating and maintaining the health and safety file for the life of the project.
• Working with the principal contractor with regards to planning, managing and monitoring the construction phase.
• Planning in risk to prevent and mitigate dangers where possible.

We will provide accountability and clarity regarding the responsibilities for health and safety on the project, ensuring risk is mitigated and that all responsible parties carry out their health and safety roles as required.
